About

I have lived in East Texas since 1996. After a 10 year hiatus to work as a pharmaceutical sales representative, I determined it was time to return to counseling, my first love. I completed my internship at the Bradshaw State Jail in correctional counseling and worked for three years on staff before moving into private practice. I believe that clients can best be guided on their healing journey by truly listening without judgment and by offering direction informed by research, clinical practice, and the client’s needs and motivation to heal.

I provide individual counseling for adults, especially those that have been victims of trauma (e.g., abuse and neglect). My specialty therapy is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I am a member of the American Association for Christian Counselors, the American Counseling Association, EMDR International, and the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation.

My wife, Kara, and I have been married for over 30 years and have six children (3 biological and 3 adopted from foster care, but ALL of them are “our children”). Having fostered and adopted children of various ages and races, we are very involved in the realities of being a trans-racial family. My wife is a case manager for a post-adoptive services organization, so I am reminded daily of the special needs that both adopted children and their adoptive and biological parents have. My family is actively involved in a local church and with various community services.

This new blog will be an opportunity to share a mixture of professional and personal “musings” about all things mental health. Some may be serious, some may be (an attempt at) funny. All will be “me.”

While I certainly want to provide professional information and resources when appropriate, I think my main goal at this point is to blog my personal experiences and reactions to the arena of mental health. This may include presenting original ideas. This may involve reviewing an existing article and offering my take on their ideas. I may review apps and products and therapies that I have found useful as both a therapist and an individual. I won’t promise at this point that everything I post will be comprehensive or exhaustive but mostly that it will serve as a starting point for thinking or a conversation.

Enjoy the ride with me!
